Regional Housing Association – Strategic review of supported housing
Background
Recently, we worked with a regional housing association in the South West that has a sizeable stock of supported housing and care homes targeted towards those with learning disabilities or mental health issues. The association sought external expertise and capacity to inform decisions about its future involvement in the provision of supported housing and care homes.
Approach
We developed a very strong working relationship with staff at the Association, helping us to draw on the available data and to learn from the staff and stakeholders. The project included:
- reviewing the service and housing offer at each scheme, including analysing the financial performance.
- studying the various historical agreements and funding arrangements.
- liaison with a range of stakeholders to explore options.
- visiting every scheme to assess its condition and suitability for the client group.
We provided a detailed report collating the evidence and options for each of the schemes. Our summary was reported to the Association’s Board with the full report made available.
Outcome
The Association made decisions to significantly change its approach. We are now supporting them to implement the decisions it made based on all the evidence.
