Nehemiah Housing Association – Damp and Mould Policy

Background

Nehemiah Housing Association provides quality, affordable housing together with wellbeing services and support to ethnically diverse communities across the West Midlands.

Nehemiah has a housing stock of c.1,230 homes and was originally created with a mission to fulfil the need to provide practical housing to local communities, including African, Caribbean, Asian, Irish and European communities in Birmingham, Coventry, Dudley, Sandwell, Walsall and Wolverhampton.

Approach

We were commissioned by Nehemiah Housing to review their Damp and Mould policy and provide feedback on areas for further development or strengthening.

We engaged with Nehemiah colleagues to understand what has influenced their current policy and to glean what their objectives were regarding Damp and Mould.

Thereafter, we reviewed the policy in place and provided additional content and possible amendments for Nehemiah to consider.

Nehemiah reviewed our suggestions and finalised the policy before it was referred for Board approval for implementation and communication to the wider Nehemiah colleague establishment and customers.

In conjunction with reviewing the Damp and Mould policy, we assisted Nehemiah with their self-assessment against the Housing Ombudsman’s 26 recommendations for dealing with Damp and Mould.  The outcome being a series of tasks for Nehemiah to further embed best practice within their policies and procedures.

Outcome

This was a short and intensive piece of work where we worked with the client to respond to their needsThis typifies our approach where we are adaptable and responsive to a client’s needs at all junctures, supporting them in delivering excellent outcomes for their customers and respective social housing businesses.
