Mental ill health is on the rise, at least one person in four in any one year will experience a mental health issue.
It could be a close loved one, a wider family member, colleague or acquaintance.
When that happens will you be able to spot the signs? Will you know what to say and do? It’s always a combination of a lack of confidence and knowledge that stops someone from knowing what to do and say. It doesn’t have to be this way.
After our mental health training, on average most people move their confidence from a 2 to an 8 and knowledge from a 3 to a 9. But, those are just numbers.
What this really means, matters the most. They are now much more likely recognise the sign of someone in distress and be able to do something to support them.
The cost to businesses who don’t do anything is huge, £70 billion in days off sick.
Anyone can improve the quality of the conversations around mental health by attending the MH Champions one-day course, it will help you build confidence about what to say and how to say it.
Is there a gap between reality and aspiration when it comes mental health conversations where you work? If so, this course will help you to help others.
Research confirms that a culture of fear and silence around mental health is costly to employers:
- One in five (21%) agreed that they had called in sick to avoid work when asked how workplace stress had affected them
- 30% of staff disagreed with the statement ‘I would feel able to talk openly with my line manager if I was feeling stressed’
- 56% of employers said they would like to do more to improve staff wellbeing but don’t feel they have the right training or guidance.
Give us one day and we’ll give you’re the confidence and knowledge to support someone in pain.
Don’t take our word for it though:
“Anthony was an excellent instructor. Engaging, knowledgeable, open and honest. The course was excellent. Learned a lot and now feel confident about deploying the new knowledge in practice” – Manager, the Confederation British Industry.
“I really enjoyed the day. It was informative and helpful. It’s a difficult subject, but I know feel much more confident in supporting people at work.” Leisure centre, staff member, Everybody Sport & Recreation

Who is this for?
This course is ideal for an organisation who wants to have trained people across the business who can provide essential mental health first aid to colleagues to support their mental wellbeing.
Therefore, managers or people within support functions who are available for colleagues to approach are ideal. A useful ratio is to have a similar number of mental health first aiders as physical first aiders.
