My Digital Marketing Apprenticeship: Skills, Growth, and Career Progression

By Pete Evans · 18 February 2025

ARK Marketing and Events Coordinator Emily Wilde writes about her Digital marketing Apprenticeship, which she completed in late 2024.

Embarking on a digital marketing apprenticeship was one of the best decisions I could have made for my career. Wanting to strengthen my marketing skills, I took on the challenge of learning alongside my role at ARK. When I first joined ARK, my role was Admin and Marketing Assistant, but over time (and with the knowledge gained from my apprenticeship) I progressed into my current position as a Marketing and Events Coordinator.

Balancing work and study was not easy, but it was an incredibly rewarding experience. During the apprenticeship, I completed two exams: one focused on general marketing principles and the other on coding. Beyond the exams, I applied my learning directly to projects at ARK, making immediate use of new insights and strategies. From improving digital campaigns to refining content strategies, the skills I developed became an integral part of my day-to-day work.

Some of the key skills I developed included using SEO effectively, using social media for marketing, engaging with customers, and implementing email marketing strategies. I also gained experience in content creation, data analytics, and paid advertising. These digital marketing strategies will continue to benefit me as I grow in my career, ensuring I stay adaptable and up to date with industry trends. Each module helped me improve my work, letting me test and adjust my approach. Seeing real results was exciting and rewarding.

Reflecting on the experience, I can confidently say that the apprenticeship provided me with the tools to advance in my role. It not only deepened my understanding of marketing but also gave me the confidence to take on more responsibilities. Continuous learning is key in the ever-evolving world of marketing, and this apprenticeship was a fantastic stepping stone for my future career.

Pete Evans, Marketing Manager at ARK, said:
“Emily has become an integral member of the ARK team, and being able to gain valuable experience by doing the job alongside studying for her apprenticeship has been a massive benefit for Emily and for the company, setting her up for a great career in marketing.”
