Celebrating 35 Years of Supporting the UK Social Housing Sector
This year, we are proud to celebrate 35 years of working alongside housing associations, local authorities, other social landlords to deliver the skills and expertise that improve homes, communities, and services.
Since our founding in 1990, ARK has grown into one of the UK’s leading social housing consultancies, with expertise spanning asset management, development and regeneration, governance, strategy, resident engagement, decarbonisation, Net Zero, building safety, and recruitment and interim services. Our clients trust us to combine commercial acumen with a strong social purpose, helping them to deliver real impact for the communities they serve.
To mark this milestone, our founders – John Paterson, Jerry Gilbert, and John Fisher – have reflected on ARK’s journey in a special series of three videos.
What We’re Proud Of
In the first video, our founders share what they are most proud of after 35 years.
Jerry highlights the opportunities ARK has been able to give the people we have employed and worked alongside since founding the company in 1990.
John Paterson reflects on how ARK has grown into a respected force in the sector, developing young professionals into strong consultants and helping them build long-term careers.
John Fisher speaks about being part of a trusted, long-standing team that has built a respected brand, always delivering quality and knowledge transfer to clients.

Our Values
Our second video explores the values that have guided ARK since the very beginning.
John Paterson explains how the business combined commercial discipline with deep social values, supporting those who most need help.
Jerry recalls ARK’s first strategy document in 1990, which set out not only a commitment to quality and value for money but also to addressing social needs, working ethically, and embracing the green agenda long before it became mainstream.

Looking to the Future
The final video looks ahead at the challenges and opportunities facing ARK and the wider housing sector.
John Paterson notes that while the housing challenges of today may look different, the underlying debates remain similar to those of 1990.
John Fisher reflects on the growing importance of strategic asset management, to provide safe, warm and decent homes, and to meet decarbonisation and Net Zero goals.
Jerry highlights our strength in adapting to changing needs and pressures in the housing sector, ensuring we remain agile and responsive for our clients.

Looking Ahead
As we celebrate 35 years in business, we remain focused on what we do best, supporting housing associations and local authorities to deliver better housing, stronger organisations, and sustainable futures for communities. Our blend of social purpose and commercial expertise will continue to guide us as we face the challenges of today and tomorrow.
