ARK Amble 2025 – Marching Millions of Steps!

The ARK Amble

Each year, ARK raises funds for different charities addressing critical social issues. Over the past five years, the team has supported organisations including Crisis, Shelter Cymru, Trussell Trust, St Basil’s, and The Ootsider – collectively raising over £8,000 for homelessness prevention and support services. In order to raise money for these important causes, the ARK team joins forces to complete targeted walking challenges that encourage more physical activity in this cold, winter month whilst highlighting social housing needs.

2025 – Marching 2.8 Million Steps

For the sixth annual ARK Amble we have decided to challenge ourselves by walking millions of steps in order to raise money for charity and also raise awareness of the housing crisis in the UK.

We are going to walk 2,800,000 steps as a team! Why? Because this figure represents the number of households currently on council waiting lists for social housing (1.3 million) plus the commitment from the current government to build 1.5 million new homes by 2029. The numbers are huge and show that the spotlight needs to be on providing safe, affordable and quality homes for everyone!

All throughout December, when the weather is cold and the days are short, the ARK team will commit to going out and walking each day in order to contribute steps to reach our massive total.

Birmingham Care Group

This year’s chosen beneficiary is Birmingham Care Group (BCG), a dedicated local charity operating just minutes from ARK’s main offices. BCG serves over 500 families each month through its food pantry, where members can access quality groceries for just £5 – a fraction of typical retail costs. In addition, their community hub offers vital services including benefits advice, employment support, and youth programmes, creating a genuine safety net for Birmingham’s most vulnerable residents. During the current cost-of-living crisis, demand for BCG’s services has increased by 40%, making support more crucial than ever.
